The Best Yes

My nature is such that I want to do all the things with and for all the people.

I want to be the classroom mom.

I want to volunteer at the Baptist Home.

I want to throw a Pinterest party for my SAHM friends.

I want to take meals to the widows on my block.

I want to lead an in-home bible study.

I want to learn to sew.

I want to foster.

I want to be part of community theatre.

I want to blog weekly.

I want to mentor young moms.

See? I really do want to do all the things with and for all the people because trust me this list is just the tip of the iceberg of things I would love to say YES to right now this very minute.

But the truth is, no one can do all the things even when the things are very, very good things.

The bigger truth is God didn't ask us to to all the things. Just the ones He's personally called us to.

A Clean Thanksgiving

The Holidays are here ladies and gentlemen! I don't know about you guys, but for me that typically meant eating lots of taste good but bad for you food!

Not this year though! I've worked too hard to let a series of guilty pleasures pull me back into an unhealthy eating pattern.

So I turned to my BFF, Google, for solutions and hit the jackpot!

There are lots of clean eating Thanksgiving recipes and meal plans out there, and here are just a few to get you started!

Hands

Our family slipped into a pew close to the back and waited for service to start.

A finger tapped me on the shoulder. Kind eyes and a sweet smile greeted me when I turned around.

She introduced herself, and then said, "You don't know me, but I know your story."

The compassion in her voice revealed just how much she knew.

Just the Facts

Can I share some quick facts about me? Thanks! ;)

What the Facts WERE:
  • Overweight and 100% inactive
  • Heart surgery that's almost 40 years old
  • Pacemaker/Defibrillator for 10 years
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, & Fibromyalgia
  • Constant fluid on my left knee for over 10 years
  • Inability to climb stairs without pain or hanging on to the walls.
  • Coke addict, using 5-6 times a day . . . and I mean the red can kind
  • Multiple medications including pain killers & muscle relaxers
  • 1-2 hours of wobbly walking first thing in the morning due to stiffness/pain
Some of those facts are still true.
Some will never go away.
But there are some I have kicked to the curb and shattered sledge hammer style!

Snapshots of Healing

You know that instruction book you wish had come with your newborn . . . well, let me just tell you, when you're parenting kids from hard places and healing is the goal, you'd be happy with a Sharpie map drawn on a napkin! And you would probably frame it so as not to lose it!

At their hearts, traditional parenting and therapeutic parenting aren't all that different. Even though the methods vary from child to child, the goal is the same - physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthy individuals who can function as independent adults. Both have milestones, they just look different . . .  way different.

I want to share 5 of our milestones; every single one almost two years in the making. These snapshots of healing are akin to a baby's first tooth. It may seem trivial to some, but they were hard won with lots of pain and agony that Baby Oragel could not touch. As parents, we are so stinking proud and know there's more to come!

Looking Back At 2013

2013 was a wild adventure for our family. There was lots of good, lots of not so good, and praise God lots of amazing! And my recap in words would not do any of it justice. If a picture's worth a thousand words, then these should cover it nicely!
